I actually don't want an official explanation. They added the chests as a surprise and even more of a surprise was that they were reseted - and now they are reseted once again. I'm enjoying finding out the causes and effects which surround the mystery of some toons being able to open them and some not. I prefer a mystery instead of an explanation!

I tried Arkjok Ward, Jahai Bluffs, The Mirror of Lyss, and The Hidden City of Ahdashim with my Tyrian monk that's finished NF, has protector and cartographer and opened them twice already. Nothing.

I tried to open all of them last night, and got nothing. Still only two times for me.

Very odd that they are working a third time for certain people, and not for others.

if its a reset by times then thats the explanation

so all x days = chests reset

Two if my characters opened all 12 chests on the day of the reset. I'm 100% sure of that, because there was some talk of the reset being a bug and I wanted to grab them again before it was fixed. They can't open them again, so it doesn't seem to be a time-based reset.

Oddly enough.. All of my foreign characters opened the treasures, but my Paragon and Dervish couldn't..

Only my Derv and Ranger couldn't open the chests, which is regrettable because they're the only chars I have in Desolation and beyond.

Other than that, all my foreign chars and my Elonian Mesmer and Elementalist could open the chests.

I did not have much time to test this myself before work. But I am going to attempt to reopen by characters in the order I did for the last reset.

Dervish first. Was able to open Jahai Bluff (sup vig!!), Arkjok, and Bahdok. Will finish up tonight and try to remember who did them next (in case it's time-based for sure).

(To answer the person who asked about having the lucky aura, my dervish did not participate in Canthan New Year at all.)

Meanwhile, yeah, Excel spreadsheet for this sounds like a good idea--how sick are we?? lol

Tried it with my monk this moring. He has finished NF and has opened all of them twice before. He could open only the one in Jahai Bluffs, and none of the rest of them. I did them all on the same day when they were done before, so this does not appear to be time based, at least not for my monk. Not sure why he can only open one, but there it is. I will try with some other toons tonight.

I still think that an explanation from Galie is needed regarding the mechanics of this process. This is not a surprise/secret to anyone now and only add frustration. If it is a bug, it should be fixed.

I haven't had a chance to check the chests with any of my characters yet, but is there any correlation between the 3rd 'reset' and Sunspear or Lightbringer rank?

They have reset for my Monk, who is now opening them a second time. Last time she opened them after the reset in January. She is foreign born, LBR2, and did get a lucky fortune.

The did not reset for my Necromancer, who has already opened them twice. I can't remember when the last time he opened them was. He is Elonian, LBR7, and did not get a lucky fortune.

Any other variables we should try? :P

Still no luck with my mesmer or ele. Here's my question - had everyone who opened them a 3rd time opened *all* of the chests since the Jan reset?

Going to give it a couple of days and try again - my necro and paragon just got to Vabbi and have hardly opened any, so there's lots of goodness left for them anyway.

No. As coincidence would have it, every time I went round the chests, I used my Paragon first every time. On the 2nd reset, I didn't hit all places.

I took my Paragon around EVERY chest this time, and all of them gave up the goodies for me.

My vote is definitely time/character based. I'm going to start a calendar for all my toons now

It's not time character based.

My Warrior who opened all the chests the same day they reset back in Jan, could not open them a third time.

My monk who hadn't opened all of them, only the ones up to Vabbi, who opened the chests a 2nd time about a day or two after they respawned could open them a third time.

All my other characters, who opened in between that time (warrior-monk) could also not open them a third time. They have opened every chest up to Vabbi a 2nd time, and Desolation and Torment chests for the first time, this past month or two. It would make sense, if my warrior could open them, but he cannot.

So no it must be a bug or reset gone wrong, because if it was time/character based my warrior would be able to open them.

I'm pretty sure it's a bug because I cannot find anything in any chest, even ones that I know I haven't previously opened. These areas used to be fogged for me and upon exploring them, I come upon Treasure Chests/Buried Treasure/Do Not Touch, and can't get anything from them. My vote is definetly on chests are bugged.

I checked on my war and ranger who didnt get the first lot but got the second.

I only checked the two easiest ones, jayla and arjok. No luck.

It might be that they are reset on a character base when that character has not opened any chest for x ammount of time. So those that have no luck, pls try to remember when you last opened any chests on that character.

So, heading to all the treasures, in order by character, how I opened them at the last reset.

Dervish = able to open all
Para = able to open all

At the last reset, 6 had opened the treasures up until Ruptured Heart, 5 of those opened every single one til the end.

I suspect that that 6th character will be able to reopen everything up until that Ruptured Heart one. I suspect that my 7th character, who opened all the chests, but between the last reset and this, will NOT be able to reopen any.

We shall see... Then again, if everyone's memory is shaky from a month ago, it could all be random!!
